Scope of works: Adam Britton was the Client’s lead project manager for this major sporting facility on the Sunshine Coast. The scope included a 1,000-seat covered stadium, extensive player and club facilities, commercial tenancy spaces, offices, media facilities, a commercial kitchen, a piazza area, and internal roadworks and car parking.
Challenges: Earlier design costs were estimated to significantly exceed the available budget, risking the viability of the project. A full redesign of the project would have significantly prolonged the project duration and costs.
Overcoming the challenges: A thorough assessment of the project requirements and relevant standards allowed for the scale and cost of the project to be reduced but maintain the key aspects for patrons and players. The two-stage design and construct procurement approach allowed for novel solutions for design and the inclusion of commercial tenancies along with competitive main contractor tenders created a beneficial revenue and saving to the client.
Outcome for our client: High standard regional sporting facility with commercial return.
